Interview: D.V. Stone, author of Rainbow Sprinkles
This week, I had the pleasure of interviewing D.V. Stone about her writing, the most interesting thing she’s researched for her work, and her favourite meme.
D.V. is the author of this year’s “Rock House Grill” and the recently released “Rainbow Sprinkles”, a second chance romance with light paranormal themes. You can find out more about “Rainbow Sprinkles” in the interview and at the end of this post.
Thank you, D.V., for joining me. So tell me, what kinds of stories do you write?
D.V. STONE: I’m a multi-genre author who writes romance in contemporary, suspense, and light paranormal. I also love fantasy and have both a romantic fantasy and a mid-grade paranormal.
What made you choose to write in these genres?
D.V.: Since I read across genres, I write across them as well. But whatever label my book goes under, you can be assured they all have a happily ever after.
What are some of your favourite tropes within the genres you write in?
D.V.: I write about strong characters who often get into pickles. Sometimes they cause it and sometimes they are a victim. But, no matter what happens in their lives, they are ultimately responsible for how they deal with it. Choosing to let circumstance control them or they control their response and outcomes with the help of friends and family.
You’ve already released not one, but two books this year—and it’s only July! Tell me more about them.
D.V.: Rock House Grill, the first book in my Impact Series, was released in April by Wild Rose Press. It is contemporary romantic suspense. I’ve incorporated my past life experience as an EMT and former restaurant and coffee shop owner.
The second book is part of Wild Rose Press’s One Scoop or Two summer series of novellas. Rainbow Sprinkles is a second chance romance with light paranormal (think guardian angels). It takes place in a small community in New Jersey around a lake and ice cream parlor.
So, we asked you for your favourite meme right now, and you sent us a picture of this tortoise (I must admit, I like it too). Why did you choose this one?
D.V.: I love it because it says to me— Under life’s burdens, there is still a rich life to be led. This guy/gal needs to work its way out of the mire to get to the life it wants.
What do you love most about writing?
D.V.: I love creating characters, and then letting them tell the story. I enjoy research into things that they experience. Also, the happiness and excitement that I can bring to the reader. Recently someone who read Rock House Grill told me, “Your book reminded me why I used to enjoy reading, and now I’ve begun to do it again.”
What’s the most interesting thing you’ve researched for your writing?
D.V.: In Rock House Grill, Aden House, the lead male character, sustains a major injury to his legs. After surgery and beginning physical therapy, my own life mirrored this. My husband fell and caused significant damage to his leg, requiring the same. So real-life experience became my research.
Finally, what are you working on?
D.V.: Jazz House is the second book of the Impact Series. Many of the same characters are sprinkled through, and Michael, one of RHG’s secondary characters, becomes the focus with a new character who’d been introduced.

Retired and widowed Gloriana Jones is forging on with the plans she and her late husband dreamed of—bringing joy and happiness, one ice cream cone at a time, to Lake Unami. But bad weather is drowning her dream. A trip to Upstate NY is bittersweet for Nathan James. He is excited to see his first granddaughter but without his wife he’s lonely. When his car breaks down, he heads to the only light he can see, an ice cream shop. With aid from a heavenly source, electricity sparks, but will the two weather the summer storms and find love a second time? Or will their hopes and dreams melt away?

“Do you mind if I wait until the tow truck gets here?” He plucked the wet shirt away from his chest with the long fingers of one tanned hand. “It must be electrical, even the radio stopped working.”
“No, you’re welcome to hang around as long as you need.” Gloriana riffled through a cardboard box under the counter, pulled out an extra-large t-shirt, and tossed it to him. “Here you go. The restroom is through there.”
Mr. Gorgeous beamed a perfect toothy smile. “Thanks. I’ll be right back.”
When he disappeared into the hallway, and the door clicked shut, Gloriana fanned her face. What the hot fudge was wrong with her? “Coffee. Make coffee.”
