Random writing update
Things have changed a bit in the three years since chatting with D.V. Stone about my work desk. I no longer have three work desks, but one official workspace that doesn't need to be repurposed for storage every few months.
I've also taken to writing from cafés and libraries from time to time, which has been nice. I don't miss working in an onsite office, but it's nice to have things going on around me that I can vaguely be aware of. It reassuringly reminds me that life goes on, even when I'm locked away in my little bubble of focus.
It's thanks to this newfound focus that I've finally finished the first draft of The Guy from the Wedding, after almost two years of scrapping, restarting, and procrastinating. Unlike with the previous version, I don't see anything I particularly want to stick in the bin when I look at it, which bodes well.
There'll probably be a couple rounds of revision for this novel-length manuscript, but for now, it's cooling off while other things take my attention. Things like good TV.
Last month, my household powered through seasons 1 through 3 of Succession, and marvelled at the brillint writing, acting and character development. We're holding off on season 4, avoiding all searches and spoilers, until we can watch it all in one hit.
Until then, we've turned to The Responder, marvelling at the fantastic direction and Scouse accents.
I'm also turning to books. Of late, I've been reading a lot and have wanted to double down since reinviting paperbacks into my life. I'd forgotten how lovely it is to hold a sturdy paper thing in the late evening. This winter, I plan to visit the cosiest pubs I can find to enjoy a hearty stout and a couple of pulpy chapters.
