The Best Bit: Falling for my Office Grump by Callie More

Falling for my Office Grump, Book 1 of the Cranberry Creek Book Club Series, by Callie More is an introspective Grumpy/Sunshine small-town romance, set around the restoration of a historic hotel, the kind we‘d call a “heritage building” here.

This novella is a charming grown-up romance exploring how two colleagues, who don’t get along, might find common ground while working together. United by a common goal, Kaylee and Miles chip away at their differences, refurbish their relationship, and come to see each other in a whole new light.

The office grump is paired up with Yours Truly for a restoration project. Who would have imagined he would find the blueprint to my heart?

My big break has arrived with the restoration of the historic DuPont Hotel.

This is my chance to prove my worth to my hard-nosed boss and finally snag that promotion.

But suddenly out of nowhere, BAM!

My boss drops a wrecking ball, pairing me up with Miles Nelson, aka the ultimate office grump, complete with his irksome suit and obnoxious bow tie.

At least it’s back home in Cranberry Creek, where I’m getting time with friends and family.

But now everyone seems to be pushing me and Miles together.

Okay, I'll admit, there are times when I do get lost in his dreamy blue eyes…that crooked smile…and those irresistible dimples…

And being trapped alone with him in this creaky old elevator that threatens to send us plummeting to our death isn’t helping my resolve… or my fluttering heart!

Will the Grump and I end up a hot mess, or can we pull off a double win—bringing this place back to its glory days and constructing our own love story along the way?

The best bit (for me)

What stood out for me most was a tiny exchange, where Miles tells Kaylee he’s passionate about water conservation, and briefly touches on simple things businesses can do to save water over the normal course of operations.

The circumstances leading up to that moment showed lovely development between the MC’s, providing a wonderful setting for this seemingly mundane topic of conversation.

But it wasn’t mundane to me. What I’ve realised I enjoy most about sweet contemporary romance (and cosy mysteries) isn’t always the romance, but the glimpse into another person’s (albeit fictional) life: another sphere of awareness, where I might learn something new about the world.
